What to Set Up Before Running Google Ads or Meta Ads

Before paying for traffic, make sure the offer, destination, measurement and follow-up process work together. A campaign can be correctly configured and still struggle if customers reach a confusing page or their inquiries never receive a response.

Orange campaign launch still life with a target, arrow, glass panels and measurement dial.
A launch connects the offer, destination, measurement and follow-up process.

1. Define the business outcome

Start with the result the business needs: qualified inquiries, purchases or booked appointments. Describe what qualifies and who checks it. A service business may value a relevant quote request more than an inexpensive form submission from someone outside its service area.

Work backward from that outcome to the campaign objective and measurement plan. Use supporting signals, such as page engagement, to understand behavior, but do not treat every interaction as equivalent to a customer. A shared definition prevents reporting from becoming a list of disconnected platform metrics.

2. Confirm account ownership and access

Confirm that the business can access its advertising accounts, relevant business assets, website and measurement tools. Give collaborators the permissions required for their work instead of sharing personal passwords. Record who approves changes and who controls billing.

Check existing assets before creating replacements. Duplicate accounts, pixels or conversion actions can make future troubleshooting harder. If an agency or specialist is involved, agree how access, documentation and outstanding work will be handed back when the engagement ends.

3. Match the destination to the offer

Open the destination on a phone and follow the same route a prospective customer will take. Does the page explain the offer in the ad? Are important conditions visible? Can a visitor complete the form, booking or checkout without encountering a broken step?

Submit a real test inquiry and confirm its receipt. If the process opens an email draft, distinguish that action from actually sending an email. A campaign should not report a confirmed lead simply because a visitor clicked a button that starts a separate process.

4. Configure and test conversion measurement

Document the events you want to measure, the point at which each event occurs and which tool receives it. For a purchase, this might include a confirmed transaction and its value. For a lead, identify the successful submission state and any later qualification process.

Google provides conversion-tag setup and troubleshooting guidance; use the implementation appropriate to your website. Check that each action fires when intended and is not accidentally duplicated. If several tools report the same business outcome, understand how those reports relate before adding their totals together.

5. Verify consent choices and data handling

If your site offers analytics and marketing choices, test what happens before a choice, after rejection, after each category is accepted and after permission is withdrawn. Do not assume that showing a cookie banner controls every script. Verify the tags and network behavior.

Google Consent Mode does not by itself control every third-party pixel. Configure each provider according to the consent approach in use. Keep personal inquiry text, email addresses and private access tokens out of ordinary analytics events and page URLs sent for measurement. Review the actual implementation and applicable requirements before launch.

6. Prepare creative variations and a test budget

Prepare a clear message, relevant visual assets and an action that matches the destination. Check each selected placement rather than assuming one export will display correctly everywhere. Use meaningful variations, such as a different benefit or objection, instead of changing only a background color.

Set an initial budget the business can afford and agree when results will be reviewed. There is no universal test budget that guarantees a useful conclusion. Expected acquisition costs, conversion frequency, audience and sales cycle affect how much evidence a campaign can collect.

7. Assign follow-up and launch responsibilities

Decide who responds to inquiries, how quickly they aim to respond and where the outcome is recorded. A missed call or unanswered form can make advertising look ineffective even when the campaign generated relevant interest.

Before launch, confirm approval of the offer, destinations, assets, targeting, budget and measurement checks. Yntiq offers defined campaign launches and optional ongoing management. Tracking implementation, landing pages and creative production are scoped separately when needed, so the proposal should identify which launch requirements are already covered.
